Fondation Connaissance et Liberte

The Fondation Connaissance et Liberté seeks to unite civil society across Haiti and nurture local and international alliances to restore peace, foster economic development, and promote urban revitalization. It is also a leading supporter within Haiti of youth and education, community libraries, and arts and culture.

One of the foundation’s biggest projects is a joint effort with the Haitian government and the European Union to create a national park equipped with social and cultural services and the first botanical garden in Haiti. Martissant Park will be located in the middle of a highly populated Port-au-Prince neighborhood that has been severely damaged by urban violence. The park will serve as the anchor for a range of neighborhood projects addressing issues such as gang violence, sanitation and water treatment, education and professional training, and local business development.

Another notable foundation initiative is its support for an extensive nation-wide network of local community libraries, which provide children and youth from poor communities with access to information and new technologies. The flagship library is located in Port-au-Prince and serves as the training site for the more than 50 libraries in the network as well as host to a series of popular cultural events.

The foundation is also engaged in promoting women’s rights, debate programs, and community water initiatives throughout Haiti.
