The Open Society Foundation for Albania (OSFA) works to strengthen democratic reform and cohesion in institutions ranging from the government to the family. The foundation supports efforts to resolve conflicts, develop the rule of law, build informal institutions, and create transparent, flexible public institutions in Albania.

As the transition process continues in Albania, the foundation has addressed the negative consequences of economic and political change such as increased poverty, diminishing social status for groups of citizens, and threats to individual rights. OSFA’s education and training programs assist some of the most excluded and marginalized groups, and the foundation helps communities cope with economic and social distress by developing local, nongovernmental associations and other organizations.
